This is the first time for the last 3 days that I have been able to get online. For some reason, the internet connection at the hotel decided not to allow my laptop to connect. I tried to get some help with this, but when the staff saw I had an iBook, they got pretty confused. So right now, I’m sittting in Beijing Airport Terminal 3 and using the China Mobile wifi. I had to send an SMS from my Chinese cellphone to get a password to use the wifi. I’m paying something like 0.5RMB per min or something like that.Anyway, I thought I would share the following photo as I am quite happy with the outcome:Forever as one
Yup. I bagged myself a girlfriend. But I feel like shit now as I’m leaving her. I really need to find some way of working in Beijing so I can stay longer…Edit: Yes, it’s not Sunnie. But I’ll write about that later.

How did your trip work out in the end then? What did you think of Beijing as a place? Would you be interested in living over there? I would be interested to hear your thoughts.

It was proper awesome! My girlfriend is pretty desperate for me to be in Beijing now, and I’m getting a bit pissed off with Nottingham. I’m seriously considering living in Beijing. Unfortunately I don’t really know where to start, and I cannot speak any Mandarin.

I found Beijing surprisingly safe as a city. It was also very easy to get around. First thing I did was buy an ICC card for the subway to save me having change all the time. Then I had to get a China Mobile SIM as my Orange PAYG didn’t work in Beijing. I had to buy a cellphone also as nobody could unlock my Sony Ericsson, which was a right pain. Was cool when meeting people and them finding out I have a Chinese mobile, haha.

I did pretty much all of the touristy things out there. I booked tours through the hotel and ended up making friends with the tour guides. Other days, I travelled myself. The hotel I was staying in was right next to Beijing Rail Station, but as the subway station was closed, I had to go to Jianguomen to catch L1 trains. I managed to take myself to Tesco one day, which I was quite proud of. Unfortunately it was a bitch to get back from. No taxi drive wanted to take me back to the hotel. After one call to one of my tourguide friends, I got her to help me get a taxi to the nearest subway station… which ended up being right at the end of L1! I didn’t realise I was that far away!

I would love to stay in Beijing for as long as possible and find a job out there. I think at the moment all I could possibly get is teaching work, which I have been told can be quite dodgy. Apartments seem quite cheap in Beijing.

The trip was great. I went out there to meet a girl I knew on the internet, who ended up not showing up at the airport. Spent the next day alone doing nothing, then I went on a tour through the hotel. Spent the next few days doing my own thing, then met a lovely girl randomly in a department store on Wanfujing. And she is absolutely bonkers for me, but I love her dearly, heh.

One other thing I was thinking of was going to Beijing to learn Chinese. What are the course fees like for this?
