I’m very tempted to get an Advent 4211 netbook for Linux. Three people have them at work now, and I’m tempted. I’ve seen the Acer Aspire One also, but I think the Advent is the better of the two.

I found a guide to installing Ubuntu on the Advent at http://wiki.msiwind.net/index.php/Ubuntu_8.04_Hardy_Heron which looks pretty interesting.

Any thoughts?

  1. Looks like a neat little notebook – but there are a few issues raised about the battery life and also things like the wireless card compatibility. I was personally wanting to invest in an Asus EEE PC 901 – the new Asus netbook which should be arriving in the UK very shortly (the XP version is already here but there have been delays in the linux version). It should have much better out of the box support for linux as well as a bigger user community – meaning more wiki’s and hacks for getting things setup. Apparently the battery life is also meant to be fairly phenomenal!

  2. Yeah, the wireless needs replacing with another one. I’ve decided to just go for a Dell laptop as it’s cheaper and Ubuntu certified.
